Brownie I am  another one  that  looks but  doesn't post often. I  retired the first  part  of March and  love it. I play grandpa in the  morning almost everyday and  then recover in the afternoon from being  a2and half year old .As  most  of you know  the  church i  belong too bought the  old KHS and  we are iin the process  of making  it our  new  worship  and  ministry  center.   WE are  planning to Honor all the  people  who  graduated  from that Building. So  invite  every one to go to the Churches  web site http://www.kearneyfb.org/    check out  how you  can Participate in  what we are doing. our  plans are  still to Move in in Sept of 2018 so  we will able to see  first  hand  how it  has changed. I am excited  to be  a part  of  this  project and  will  try  and  keep you  all  up to date.  Mary let  me  know about the  planning for  the 50  year reunion  so  I can help.  The  holidays are fast approaching  so  take  time to enjoy them and  May God Bless All of you ......................................Monte

All I get is space messages when I post on the forum and we are about out of room. We have .21MB left out of 25MB. Nancy is still site administrator, when I do a contact us. Deleting stuff would free up space.  I do not see where I can see site stats, Brownie.

  Hi Everyone!

Hope to have some big "Rowdy" news in the coming week or two!! Just keep checking in! We are working on some exciting news with some of the '70 class!! Won't spend a lot of time on it now until we nail down all the details!! Whether or not you were in the stands that historic night in the old KHS gym, you were all part of the heart and soul of what the Rowdy Section was and has become!!

Ran into Painer today in Kearney, no I didn't hurt him! One of the first things he said was" need to have a bonfire! " So good visiting with him. It was so weird, because I was thinking he may be at funeral I went to this morning, he wasn't, but we collided carts at Dollar store. Meant to be! Radio out!

I’m also guilty of checking the site once in awhile but not posting. Think of you guys all the time❤️  Today grateful for the cool mornings!!! This Texas heat is awful!!!  Wally will be retiring on Dec 31st so preparing for that. He’s been in the theatre biz for 52 years!  I have about a years worth of “honey do” list waiting for him so I don’t think he’ll be missing work much😂.   Wally is looking forward to the 69er reunion (since he doesn’t think his class will have one) coming soon... see ya’ll then (swear I’m not a Texan) just love the ya’ll and fixing to do lingo. ❤️

Well, it is cold here in St. Louis too, although not like Nebraska.  HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!  Taking the grandkids out for trick or treating tonight (well, I am the driver, their parents walk with them).  One dressed up like a werewolk, the other like a scary clown (the six year old girl - I'm afraid of her), Thomas the Train for the 3 year old and the 13 year old - a combination of a ninja in black tights and a Greek tragedy figure (a white mask).  Me - I am the Screamer out of that painting (sorry, can not remember the name of the painter).

Funerals for me too Barb, too many, my stepdaughter passed at age 50, and my grandson's other grandma passed at 65, from diabetes/heart failure.  From dust we come, to dust we return - or all we are is dust in the wind. Sorry, just feeling so damn sad today.

Kathy,

Don't Worry, Be Happy!

I, too would like to burn my funeral clothes! I figure we owe it to those who have passed before us to enjoy life today. So I say don't look at the dust on your doorstep, go out screaming like the painter whom I can't remember either! It's snowing here and I truly love snow!  So you can be the screamer today and I'll be the crazy lady who runs outside to smell the snow!

Thanks Janet and Mary Louise, appreciate the sentiments!!  You are so right, enjoy the time we have now.  I will enjoy the grandkids tonight in their Halloween outfits, it looks like a riot on the street we go to - there are so many people, cars and kids, so it is fun seeming the teeming mass of humanity bumble up and down the street.

Hello Hometown Friends!

These recent posts have prompted me to come out of the shadows and make a few comments. Many thoughts come to mind, but will try to keep it under a ten point dissertation.

1. If I lived closer, (Wisconsin is a long way from Kearney) I would be at the campfire and other events...have a great time everyone! I hope someone posts some photos.

2. I feel a strong kinship with you all, the older I get. Our shared common experiences of growing up in Kearney and graduating from the same high school give us a lot in common. I value this connection even more, now that none of my family live in Kearney, except at the cemetery.

3. So that is why I am an occasional checker of the message forum. It is inspiring and fun to hear from and about people who have known me, and who I remember from way back. I am very grateful for those of you who stay in touch and to find you are dealing with the similar aging issues I am!

4. Which brings me to the recent posts about funerals. Not long ago my husband and I went to the local funeral home and pre-planned and paid for our funerals. I found the experience to be emotionally satisfying. First I was tearful, then more rational as we chose the details of our services together, then relieved knowing our kids won't have to deal with all those decisions. And it felt like a gift from my spouse, knowing exactly what he wanted, and vice versa, and who to call!

5.  Since taking a close up look at the last day, when we need to call a funeral home, I have found that each day has become more meaningful and I try to pack as much in each day as possible. We are spending time writing books together. Hope to have one published by the end of the year for gifts for the grandkids!

6. Seize the day!

Great night for a fire!  Much obliged for the efforts of Painer, Bix, and Brownie for the usual good food and good company. There is nothing like warm friendships around a warm fire on a cool evening. The 69ers always make the 70's feel welcome. Thanks for allowing us to be a part of it.

Happy Birthday, Bix!

Last night it became even more apparent to me the meaning of long-time friendships, as well as new ones. It's incredible to me the impact that people have on who you become, and what you are. Even though many years passed by without their company, I realize that they have always been a part of my life in subtle ways. Values, honesty, humor, and all that contributes to what life is about.

Growing up in Kearney may have seemed lackluster at the time, but classmates who had the same experiences and commonality augment the feeling of belonging to a community, both literally and figuratively. I wouldn't trade a second of it.

It may seem like a trivial thing, a small group of people gathering around a fire for a few hours, but it is a primal, powerful feeling of bond and love. I thank all of my friends, past and present, for showing me this again. The laughs, the stories, even the tears, are invaluable. I love you all, and I guess I always have.

Wow, some really meaningful posts in the last week, and I can truly say I feel exactly the same way -  the friendships forged in Kearney will always be with me as I traverse the sometimes rocky life I live now. The one thing I can be secure in knowing?  That the love of God and the lessons I learned in Kearney are truly the rocks that I stand on each and every day.  Along with the friendships, there were the Sunday schools, the church camps, the confimation classes.  As a group, we have been truly blessed with the loving families, the great schools, the mostly crime free town, and churches that taught us the values we live by today.  God bless all of you today and always!!

I received word through our church prayer chain, Eric Blume passed away last night!  His brother Fred is a church member. I don’t have any details but am hoping there is an obituary in the Hub.  Eric attended Kenwood and lived a block east of us growing up!  I’ve often wondered what became of him!  Susie
