Bette Diane Rathe, 68, died June 8 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born April 14, 1951 in Waverly, Iowa to Roland Stephen Rathe and Lilah E. (Frederick) Rathe. Bette graduated from Kearney High School in 1969. She received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and her Master's Degree from Emporia State University. She was with the public school systems in Shelton and Hastings, Nebraska and Sterling, Colorado. She spent 9 years at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD and finally was Associate Professor Emerita of University Libraries at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. She retired in 2016 to Lincoln where she was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Bette was a proficient violinist and played with several orchestras throughout her life.
She is survived by her brother, William Randall Rathe (Sandra) of Lincoln. Nieces, Donna (John) DeMarco of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Pamela (Lester) Miller of Ankeny, Iowa. Nephews, Clark (Catherine) Rathe of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Grant (Amanda) Rathe of Mount Dora, Florida; and Nolan (fiancé, Jasmine Nguyen) Rathe of Lincoln. She is also survived by 6 great nephews and 6 great nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Robert John Rathe.
Services will be held Friday June 14, 2019 at 10:00 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church at 510 S. 33rd Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. Graveside services will be held Friday at 1:30pm at the Kearney Cemetery, 4400 Avenue I, Kearney, Nebraska.
